When I was a child I saw the world from a different perspective. Things looked bigger and brighter when I was a child. Butterflies seemed more mystical. The rainbow seemed to shine brighter. Birthdays were more exciting. Jennelle L. White shares themes that will take the reader back in time and will stimulate the imagination of children. Most of the themes are simple everyday things. Puppies, kittens, fire trucks and ducks are just a few of the topics covered.

I enjoyed Growing Up Poetry, the illustrations are beautifully done, the colors are bright and appear to have been done in crayon. Some of the poems need to be reworked. The meter is off. When the meter is off their rhythm is jerky instead of having a nice flow. There are also a few words that need to be changed. In one poem the word play should be plays. I suggest the author hire a good editor to assist her. However, that did not take away the pleasure of sharing this book with my grandchildren. They pointed to the pictures and smiled. Their favorite was The Sun. We read it over and over again. Children will enjoy this book and grandmothers will enjoy reading it to them.
